Liedertafel
Dachau e.V. – Tradition and Future
The
Liedertafel Dachau e.V. has a long tradition. The gentlemen who
fathered this
registered association in 1879 were looking for leisure
and edification through
choral singing. Rehearsals were held once a
month and, as the name suggests,
were including always a sumptuous
and cheerful informal dinner. Even Ludwig Thoma,
the famous Bavarian
author, did find his musical home at the Liedertafel Dachau
and
immortalized the choir in his books.
But
times are changing, even for choral societies. They have to cultivate
their tradition
and look into the future as well. During the last
years, the Liedertafel Dachau has
developed into a concert choir
which is supra-regionally well-known. But the traditions
of our
founding fathers will always be honoured, as well as their
conviviality.
Parties,
outings, visits to theatres and playing skittles as well as contacts
with choirs
from all over the world and, of course, the weekly
rehearsals at Dachau's
Ludwig-Thoma-Haus and our regular concerts,
especially those at the
Renaissance
Banqueting Hall of Dachau Palace, are
part of the
choir's activities.
Up to 60 singers of all age groups participate in
the concerts, and well-known soloists
and orchestras are acting with
us. Jointly, we perform famous music, amongst others,
from Bach,
Charpentier, Vivaldi, Salieri, Haydn, Mozart, Schumann, Mendelssohn
Bartholdy,
Brahms, Franck and Orff.
We
owe these concerts to the commitment of our active singers as well as
to our numerous
sustaining members. Would you like to be part of the
Liedertafel? You're welcome, be it as
a singer or as a sustaining
member. The annual contribution for our members is only 40 Euro,
for
every other member of your family only another 20 Euro. Under
“Contact”, you'll find an
application form. We are an important
part of Dachau's active cultural scene. Help us
to be able to fulfil
our cultural obligations – join us!
We're
looking forward to meeting you!
